After the initial backup, Backblaze will only do "incrementals" so you'll always be caught up, and there won't be any load on your system. I'm a few days into my trial, with Backblaze identifying 700,000 files for backup, about halfway backed up at this point. Backblaze Personal Backup is a fixed cost for an important reason: to free you from having to worry if Backblaze backs up a few extra files here and there. So let's say you have 20 top level folders, at very most you would need to create 19 exclusions, because you must have installed backup software to back SOMETHING up (the one last folder).īut I would encourage you to just let it run (at very very most create 2 or 3 exclusions you really feel would save you a ton of bandwidth). NOTHING underneath an excluded folder is backed up. It excludes the folders 2 levels down, 3 levels down, 40 levels down, etc. It most definitely excludes EVERYTHING underneath the top level that you specify as an exclusion. It appears as if excluding top-level directories doesn't exclude directories beneath I just needed to add my user Library folder to the exclusions list My bad, Backblaze exclusions work as designed. I'm watching multiple days of cache files slowly creeping up to the cloud while the files I care about wait in a queue.Ĭurious if there's a better way to utilize Backblaze, or if I should just start building my own personal S3 bucket solution.ĮDIT: I didn't identify the difference between the Mac's Library folder and the Mac's User/Username/Library folder. But I really only care about backing up my 2TB's of photographs, on an external drive. A s I work through the settings, it appears as if excluding top-level directories doesn't exclude directories beneath, so theoretically I would need to map on my laptop just to dig down to what actually matters. Also not OP, but I'm digging out this 3-year-old response to see if there's been any traction in this area since the original post.
